American Heart Association Sr. Financial Analyst in Dallas, Texas

The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for a Senior Financial Analyst in our Financial Planning & Analysis department, at our office located in Dallas, TX.

In this role, you will be responsible for performing financial planning and analysis workings alongside the business units, with a heavy emphasis on complex variance analysis, budgeting, projections, and monthly reporting. Responsibilities will include knowledge of the assigned business units’ activities to provide thoughtful financial modeling and analysis for growing and developing the business unit, in support of executive management and the business unit leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, research, and report on monthly financial activity. Prepare and coordinate monthly reports and meetings to communicate qualitative analysis and variance reporting for review by senior business unit leaders, their executive management, and National executive leadership.

  • Act as financial business partner for developing and growing the business units by acquiring an in-depth understanding of their activities. Provide financial modeling and conduct thorough analyses to assist with financial guidance and structure to help the business unit achieve goals.

  • Research and identify best practices for financial reporting in a dynamic environment for both the business units and the American Heart Association. Assist with the organizations consolidation analytics and provide business unit variances.

  • Create budget templates for assigned areas which may include new emerging areas and departments. Communicate, educate, and work with assigned managers or budget managers on templates, procedures, and monthly timing. Review, track and respond to change requests. Prepare and distribute supporting schedules, financial reports, and documents for budget approval process. Review, analyze and discuss budgets and consolidations of the business unit for consistency and annual trends.

  • Develop and prepare financial projections for assigned business units. Meet with business unit leaders to help identify and recommend changes, adjustments and create supporting schedules as needed. Review financial projections against current data, trends, and metrics to improve accuracy within the business units. Analyze and report on variances from actual results and discuss any questions with various business unit leaders and their executive team.

  • Assist with revenue & expense coding questions or accounting issues that may arise. May include review of complex transactions, guidance to business unit staff and providing training or job aid materials on standard procedures.

  • Assist with any financial data requests, as needed, to support annual insurance renewals.

  • Provide high quality, timely customer service to internal and external customers. Consult with internal business unit and finance staff to improve financial reporting practices and procedures. Proactively seek out process improvements to gain efficiencies internally and externally that will benefit the business unit or finance team.

  • Perform assigned duties to assist in the preparation of consolidated budgets.

  • Perform ad hoc financial analyses as requested and participate in cross functional working groups. Assist in annual financial audit as required.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related area;

  • Minimum 7 years of progressive and increasingly complex finance and accounting experience

  • Experience with variance analysis, budgeting, financial reporting, consolidations and general ledger accounting

  • Experience developing and building detailed financial models and pro-forma statements for various business units and consolidated financials

  • Ability to communicate complex financial data, reports and tools, and interpret financial data for decision makers

  • Advanced knowledge of business financial reporting and consolidations

  • Ability to analyze detailed data and interpret into high level narrative form

  • General understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and application of the rules to business practices

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills

  • Excellent oral and written communications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

  • Oracle Essbase and/or SmartView experience

  • Non-profit experience
