American Heart Association Vice President - Heart Ball in Houston, Texas

We are hiring a Vice President, Heart Ball in our Houston, TX office. This position will work out of our Houston office. Competitive salary with incentive potential is offered.

In this position, responsibilities include advising and collaborating with internal staff, corporations, and community leaders to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and fund-raising efforts for the Houston Heart Ball. Accountable for revenue generation and community development activities as well as handling top corporate accounts, securing cause sponsorships, identifying and recruiting volunteer leadership, recruiting Executive Leadership Teams, and holding others accountable to the team fundraising goals and objectives. This position requires a self-starter who functions independently with minimal direction and will lead and supervise assigned staff. The goal for this position is $3M annually.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible to:

  • Work with VP, Development for Greater Houston to implement the plan of year over year revenue growth through mission impact opportunities, strategic market partnerships and philanthropic donors.

  • Experience leading large multi-year donors, foundations, and or/ six-figure multiyear corporate gifts.

  • Lead campaign development staff in the identification, cultivation and recruitment of C-suite and executive management volunteers with a focus on Fortune 1000 companies and top employers.

  • In conjunction with campaign team, supervise activities which include: the Heart Ball event, Peer to Peer fundraising and National programming. Responsible for driving revenue and volunteer development.

  • Establish and cultivate revenue opportunities through new accounts and new individual donors.

  • Lead the campaign income through proficiency in monthly campaign reports, annual fundraising campaign plan, end of year reports, and needed campaign monitoring tools.

  • Apply standard process policies and follow AHA procedure guidelines. Ensure the campaign team is also following expectations.

  • Supervise assigned team. Recruit, interview, hire, and provide training.

  • Meet with campaign team on a weekly basis to review the status of goals and objectives. Inspire changes or approaches which will improve the efficiency and the effectiveness of the campaign.

  • Serve as a member of the Houston Metro Senior Revenue Team (SRT) and Management Team (AMT) which reports to the Vice President, Development for Greater Houston. Attend meetings and provide leadership and mentorship.

  • Other duties and special assignments as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree is preferred.

  • 5+ years of experience in a similar voluntary non-profit organization in development positions with progressive growth.

  • At least 1 year managing, developing and coaching staff.

  • Ability and experience recruiting, training, and cultivating top-level donors and volunteers. Ability to build effective teams.

  • Excellent listening skills, including verbal and non-verbal communication, active listening, negotiating, problem-solving and decision-making.

  • Highly effective organization skills, time management, responsibility, leadership, and motivational approach to all audiences.

  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively throughout assigned geographical territory.

  • Ability to work outside of standard hours which may involve some evenings and/or weekends.

  • Event management experience is preferred.

  • Prior use of CRM system preferred.

  • Proven track record in conducting and leading effective meetings with internal and external clients.

  • Self-motivated with proven critical thinking and analytical skills.

  • Must have the ability to lift at least 20 lbs. from the ground to waist level.
