American Heart Association Vice President of Development in Irving, Texas

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Dallas Division Senior Vice President (SVP), the Vice President (VP) of Development is responsible for leading, managing, inspiring, and executing the Dallas Division fundraising campaigns (Heart Walk, Cycle Nation, Cotes du Coeur, Collin County, and Go Red For Women Luncheon). The VP will embrace and carry the Dream Big Go Big vision of the Dallas Division to be a $25M market by fiscal year 2024. He/she will also embrace and carry thru the concept of all staff encouraging and taking care of one another.

The VP will meet weekly with SVP and report out:

  • Individual campaigns status

  • Individual campaign pipeline management

  • Strategies for growth with current donors

  • Strategic input on larger, multi-year asks for prospects

  • Individual campaign leadership succession, volunteer utilization

  • Development staff successes and opportunities

  • Any HR items with development staff

The selected candidate will:

  • Work alongside SVP on key donor relationships, not only stewarding them, but also strategizing on how to deepen impact in time, talent, and treasure.

  • Work alongside SVP on mid to large company prospecting, sales process, and onboarding. This will include assisting with Top 30 Prospect List management and first class service when bringing a new company into the Dallas Division.

  • Have the principal responsibility of securely positioning the Division for aggressive growth in unrestricted revenue on an increasing and sustainable basis thru building a dynamic development staff and volunteer leadership talent and capabilities.

  • Have a “Drive for Results” mentality that not only pushes themselves but others as well.

  • Have three (3) direct reports (VP of Heart Challenge, VP of Go Red for Women, and VP of Cotes du Coeur/Collin County) that manage a total of 20+ development and support staff.

  • Must quickly be able to learn existing donor relationships and partner with direct reports and development staff to deepen and grow in financial and volunteer impact.

  • Lead from a position of collaboration across campaigns, with the best interest of the donor as the top priority, encompassing a “One AHA” mentality.

  • Will aggressively work with three direct reports and development staff on new company growth and development, both in revenue and leadership engagement/recruitment.

  • Partner and continually build a network of meaningful volunteer partnerships to advance the mission of the AHA. Thru campaign voluntary leadership, will help provide timely direction, framework, and resources for volunteers to realize campaign goal success.

  • Provide three (3) direct reports leadership direction on setting dream goals. After setting those dream goals, VP must 1) celebrate successes, 2) Hold each campaign team accountable for their goals and activities to achieve them.

  • Foster a professional work environment that promotes and values collaboration, trust, teamwork, empowerment, professionalism, and diversity where communication is open, staff celebrates each other’s successes, and conflicts are identified and quickly resolved.

  • Work with SVP and direct reports to maintain a minimum of three (3) years of “transformational” Chairs for each campaign and its events, therefore growing the divisions revenue and volunteer engagement.

  • Partner with Southwest Region and National AHA resources to provide management expertise, coaching, and monitoring for fundraising events to ensure the aggressive growth of events and focused year-round attention by monitoring internal reports and management of development staff.

  • Work with direct reports and MarCom Event staff to ensure direct and indirect campaign expenses are within approved budget.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Minimum of 5 years leadership experience of 20+ staff members in a comparable non-profit or sales organization

  • Minimum of 5 years in building effective teams of staff and volunteers

  • Demonstrated track record of setting, achieving, and exceeding aggressive goals on a sustainable basis

  • Demonstrated track record of influencing others to action thru communicating a shared vision

  • Ability to establish and execute strategic plans in a highly dynamic, fast paced environment

  • Ability to communicate vision to a team

  • Demonstrated skills in written and oral communication, including large and small group presentations, group facilitation, and writing clear, concise reports and evaluation.
