We have an excellent opportunity for a Development Director in Overland Park, Kansas . The Development Director will be part of a 2-person team that oversees our Kansas City Heart Challenge campaign, with a focus on our signature Heart Walk fundraising event.
Under general supervision, the Business Development Director is responsible for advancing the American Heart Association’s mission through the planning, management, and implementation of fundraising strategies in collaboration with internal and external partners to achieve overall team and region goals. This includes ensuring that revenue goals are achieved through developing new and cultivating existing relationships and driving revenue and health impact goals through effectively engaging volunteers, other partners, and staff across diverse opportunities.
Due to the current pandemic, all AHA offices are closed and staff are currently working from home. While offices are closed, daily travel is minimal and voluntary. There is no overnight travel currently. Offices will be reopening October 11, 2021. On this date the position will resume to being based in the local office and work will continue in the field with donors, volunteers and partners as the job requires.
Handle the annual team cycle for the digital experiences/events including securing corporate participation, goal setting, recruitment of team captains, and motivating team members.
Prospect and secure local corporate sponsorships and individual donations.
Recruit and manage executive volunteer leadership, volunteer committees, and day of the event volunteers.
Develop profiles on the top businesses within the market area with a documented plan to secure their involvement.
Execute digital experience/event logistics based on national best practices as appropriate.
2+ years of experience in fundraising or outside sales or in a non-profit organization in a similar capacity.
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including large and small group presentations, group facilitation, and training. Skill in written communications to include clear and concise narrative reports, evaluations, and similar narrative pieces.
Ability to read, comprehend and analyze number goals, as well as fundraising reports. Skill in use of spreadsheet/database analysis.
Ability to do daily travel up to 75% and overnight travel up to 25%.
Must have at least basic knowledge and skill with Microsoft Office.
Ability to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
