The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for a Clinical Studies Advisor based out of our National Center office!

This position can be remote/home based but must live near a major airport!

This is a full time, benefits eligible, grant funded opportunity. Current funding will expire on 6/30/2024.

Under general direction from the Vice President of Real-World Evidence, and with considerable latitude for independent judgment, the Clinical Studies Advisor will direct, guide and collaborate with science volunteers and industry thought leaders to create novel and credible scientific outputs from AHA registry programs. This individual will serve as an expert advisor for feasibility and planning of retrospective and prospective research initiatives levering AHA registry data. This individual also manages existing clinical insights research projects to ensure successful execution by representing the needs and expectations of external clients and liaising with statisticians to execute analysis. The Clinical Studies Advisor also liaises with the Executive Lead, RWE, who is responsible for revenue generation, to ensure current and future RWE research initiatives align with AHA’s mission. Finally, this role is responsible for the governance of AHA Clinical Studies and Clinical Insights programs, including management and coordination of the Clinical Studies Expert Panel.

  • Directs, guides and collaborates with science volunteers and industry thought leaders to create novel and credible scientific outputs from AHA registry programs, which contribute to achieving AHA's Mission.

  • Directs, guides and collaborates with other AHA staff to assure that the programs and projects those staff are creating and maintaining are based upon credible science and aligned with AHA’s Mission.

  • Informs feasibility of registry based retrospective studies and prospective pragmatic trials, participating in the planning process and resolution of complex issues to address feasibility to ensure a credible scientific output.

  • Oversees and manages collaboration and communication between industry, investigators, and biostatisticians to ensure successful project completion.

  • Manages Clinical Insights and Clinical Study Services internal and external governance processes, including management of the Clinical Studies Expert Advisory Group, consisting of world renown physician thought leaders.

  • Writes and edits science related materials for retrospective studies and prospective pragmatic clinical trials, including manuscript protocols, informed consent, patient recruitment and site education materials.


  • Advanced degree

  • Two (2) – Five (5) years of relevant experience

  • Professional License/specialized Training

  • Clinical or research experience in the cardiovascular, neuroscience or related fields

  • Expertise in establishing governance processes, including committee establishment and management, with a focus on research and data governance.

  • Experience with research and publication of real-world evidence

  • Project management experience, with the ability to plan and monitor projects from inception through completion

  • Experience presenting to large and small audiences
