Responsibilities

We have an exciting opportunity for a Director, Participant Income within our Western States Region.

In this role, you are responsible for advancing the AHA’s mission through leading and supporting staff to plan and execute participant-driven revenue generating strategies and engagement opportunities within our region to achieve an overall goal of $14.1M. This individual will be the Western States’ subject matter expert for securing individual participant funds and ensuring local divisions’ assigned participant income goals for the fiscal year are met.

The location is flexible provided it allows for cost effective and efficient travel within the Western States region which consists of: Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and Utah.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Individual New Business Pipeline Development : Research and solicit a new business pipeline across the assigned region to generate the goaled revenue from new Life is Why We Give opportunities. This represents a seamless combination of independent new business development (35%) and driving pipelines at the division level through leads generated from local staff (65%).

  • Consulting : Consult on the planning and execution of development campaigns around participant income campaigns in designated markets. Provide expertise, coaching and strategic guidance for fundraising in Heart Challenge and CycleNation campaigns.

  • Participate in quarterly strategy meetings with markets and interact/serve as a resource.

  • Provide regular follow up for all markets based on timeline and market/staff needs on an ongoing basis.

  • Participate in the sourcing of top-quality staff and volunteers who are corporate and community leaders, reflective of the AHA priorities and community demographics.

  • Sales Planning : Design, lead and drive a thorough sales process with each identified opportunity to ensure that each prospect is managed strategically and efficiently. Includes the full continuum of the process from preparation, volunteer engagement, concept development, facilitating shared agreement on proposal and components, proposal development, negotiation to close and account transition and evaluation.

  • Cross Collaboration : Demonstrate advanced skills in communicating, influencing and engaging all appropriate departments in moving opportunities forward and agreeing on deliverables, campaign development and pipeline opportunities. Must demonstrate organizational savviness in involving departments across the region and National Center as appropriate.

  • Innovation : Identify, recommend and lead opportunities to further the success of Participant income. Includes staying on the leading edge of external and internal trends and factors that influence the potential of creative Life is Why We Give sponsorships and demonstrating the business literacy to package those into actionable proposals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in special event fundraising with a voluntary health agency or related field. Prior experience at the Staff Management level of special event fundraising is highly recommended.

  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, train and manage volunteers with success in delegating and accomplishing goals through empowering volunteers

  • Effective oral, written and presentation communication skills

  • Effective interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to develop collaborative working relationships internally and externally

  • Ability to organize and plan a complex campaign in a highly dynamic environment

  • Ability to read, comprehend and analyze financial reports and translate complex data in an actionable, understandable format for all audiences

  • Demonstrated ability to influence outcomes without direct/formal authority

  • Willingness to travel to assigned Western States markets as needed
