The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for a Director, Real-World Evidence based out of our National Center office!

This position can be remote/home based but must live near a major airport!

This is a full time, benefits eligible, grant funded opportunity. Current funding will expire on 6/30/2024.

The Director of Real-World Evidence will lead strategic collaboration with industry and physician thought leaders to leverage AHA data assets and site network for retrospective analysis and new prospective pragmatic trials. Leading business development efforts for the Real-World Evidence portfolio, this position will maintain relationships with Health Economics Outcomes Research and Medical counterparts. This position also oversees AHA’s pragmatic trial program in collaboration with PIs. For existing and new pragmatic clinical research studies, this position is responsible for trial implementation activities (site selection, recruitment, and onboarding), IRB, safety reporting and other study activities.

The Director for Real World Evidence is responsible for providing strategic direction to the trial team and liaising with the sponsor to ensure all operational and trial goals are met. This individual will help to advise technical teams, sponsors, and sites on program enhancements and infrastructure to support pragmatic trials. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of cardiovascular disease and stroke, experience with real world data and studies. This role will regularly liaise with clinicians and industry thought leaders, as well as work cross functionally with AHA teams. Strong through leadership. Lead business development and implementation efforts for AHA’s Real World-Evidence portfolio.

  • Lead strategic collaboration with industry and volunteer physicians thought leaders to leverage AHA data assets and site network for retrospective analysis and prospective pragmatic trials

  • Manage relationships with industry colleagues, including Health Economics Outcomes Research (HEOR) and Medical Affairs counterparts

  • Oversee pragmatic trial program in collaboration with PIs, including trial implementation activities (site selection, recruitment, and onboarding), IRB, safety reporting and other study activities

  • Monitors and reports trial progress and performance, timelines, and financial metrics on an ongoing basis to management team, including status of study milestones and forecast budgetary requirements based on scope of work

  • Manages Real World Evidence team


  • Advanced Degree

  • Eight (8) – Twelve (12) years of relevant experience

  • Extensive experience in biopharma or device research, including study design and execution

  • Successful track record of business development and relationship management

  • Proven track record in published research

  • Experience managing and developing teams

  • Ability to travel up to 25% local and overnight stay

Preferred Experience:

  • Ability to balance operational and strategic priorities

  • Credible in presenting work and discussing issues with senior stakeholders
